Guide for Walk Leaders

Worcester U3A Walking Groups

Establish details of the walk from the relevant group's page of the website.

These should include, the leader(s); the area of the walk; the meeting point and, if possible, the post code and grid reference. Also include any notes relevant to the walk.

  • The walk should be between 5 and 7 miles long, dependant on the Walking group criteria.
    • Walking group 1 (Medium walks) = 5 miles.
    • Tuesday Tramps Collaborative = 5 to 7 miles.
    • Walking Group - Thursdays = 5 to 7 miles
    • Long Walks = around 10+ miles
  • Reconnoitre your walk, preferably with a companion.
  • The meeting point should have sufficient parking.
  • Advise the nearest point for lunch.
  • When possible, the meeting point should have toilet facilities (parks or pubs are ideal).
  • If pubs are used for a meeting point, check with the publican if they can provide lunches and will open before 10.00am to take lunch orders and for walkers to use the facilities. Some pubs would like a few days’ notice of lunch orders.
  • Arrange a back marker for the day of the walk.
  • Be at the meeting point on the day of the walk by 09.30 to meet walkers.
  • A high-vis tabard will be available for the walk leader and back marker.

Send this information by email to the Group Leader who will put it on the ‘Forthcoming events’ or "Walks" section of the website page. This information should be with the Group Leader at least two weeks before the walk.

Walking Group 1 has a library of walks compiled by walking group members.
