This u3a walking group walks every Thursday throughout the year. In fact the only week we don't walk is Christmas week! We even have a "New Year" walk. Our walks start and finish at various locations mostly within Worcestershire, but we do occasionally cross the border into Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
The walks are a minimum of 5 miles and up to 7 miles. The aim is to alternate the "challenge" of the walks between flatter, less challenging walks and those with inclines which require a bit more effort. It is the responsibility of the individual walker to self assess their fitness and capability to undertake the walk taking into consideration the description (length of walk; inclines; number of stiles etc) and difficulty stated in the information.
The start/leaving time for the walks is 10:00am. However in the summer months during hot weather, we may decide to start at 9:30am. This will always be indicated on the details of the walk which are sent out in advance.

Please see below for the current Walking Programme. Details of the walk will be sent out prior to the day so that members can decide whether the planned walk is something they can and want to do.
Our meeting place for the walk often (but not always) starts from a pub. By arriving early we are usually able to use their facilities and pre order/book our lunch/snack as required with the publican. Because we have asked permission to use the car park and facilities of the public house, it is hoped that walkers will have the courtesy to stay for refreshments after the walk whenever possible to do so, even if this is just for a drink/tea/coffee.
Around the halfway point on a walk we stop for a short "banana break"- usually about 15 minutes. It's a good idea to have something to sit on especially in the winter months when the ground is likely to be wet and cold.
Walks are planned and led by the group members ensuring a wide variety of locations. Help in planning walks is always available and new walk leaders are encouraged. Click below for the following useful guides:
If you would like to join this Walking Group, first join the u3a, then email your u3a number and details to Shan South. u3a policy is that dogs are not allowed on u3a walks.
We also organise an annual walking holiday, which is open to all group members and is based in one of the hotels operated by HF Holidays. Hotel bookings are full board. There is a selection of walks organised by group members available each day providing a choice of terrain and distance.
Worcester u3a Walking Group is affiliated to HF Holidays and enjoys exclusive benefits and discounts. Holidays are popular and single rooms in particular fill up quite quickly. Walkers make their own way there and car sharing is encouraged. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure a place on the walking holidays. Places on all U3A holidays can be booked with Louise Radford
Last year, 22nd -26th September 2025 the walking holiday was in Church Stretton and 24 members had the most wonderful week. The weather was absolutely fabulous every single day and enabled the whole group to have some wonderful walks from a wide selection of short, medium and long walks offered by the HF House.
On 17 April 2026 we went on our second walking holiday abroad - to Tuscany. Tuscany is a beautiful area of Italy with stunning scenery and the holiday also included an excursion to the fabulous city of Florence. We had lovely weather all week and the walk leaders/guides were excellent. This was a bespoke arrangement and the 15 of us had reserved rooms with no single supplements. The hotel was excellent and the food superb!
Next year (2027) our walking holiday abroad will be in Catalonia "Trails and Rails". The dates of this 7 day walking holiday will be 4th May-11th May 2027. Once again this is with "Involved Holidays" (flying from Birmingham) and there are no single supplements. The hotel is the well appointed Maramar, Coma-Ruga in Catalonia, a small resort on the coast and by the beach and only 15 mins walk to the railway station with direct links to Barcelona. As previously, the price includes 3 guided walks and one excursion (to the UNESCO town of Tarragona) which leaves a couple of days of "free time". If you want to join us on this trip please book direct with Involved Holidays, tel no 01858 896 111 and quote Louise Radford and Worcester U3A to ensure your booking is linked to our group.
The u3a UK walking holiday in September 2026 is in the Peak District. (28th September - 2nd October 2026) The HF Hotel is "The Peveril of the Peak" in Dovedale - a beautiful aspect and only 2 hours drive from Worcester. Please contact Louise Radford b.w.radford@btinternet.com if you would like to book a place on this walking holiday.
