Genealogy Group

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: Fortnightly on Monday afternoons 2:00 pm-3:30 pm
Venue: The Hive

We are a friendly group of people with various levels of genealogy experience who get together to help each other to learn more about different aspects of family history and to work on our family trees and on our shared project on Edgar Street, Worcester. The group meets fortnightly on Monday afternoons in Meeting Room 2 at the Hive, and although the room is booked from 2 to 3.30pm members may well stay later in the Hive to continue their investigations or discussions informally.

The meeting room has audio-visual, wifi and internet facilities available, though it is helpful if members can bring along their own laptop or tablet if possible. We aim to have a mixture of talks and presentations by group members, and occasionally outside speakers, plus working on family trees using either the resources available on the archives floor of the Hive or via online sites. If you have your own Ancestry or FindMyPast subscription you should be able to sign in to these sites via wifi.

As a number of group members do not have Worcestershire ancestors in their trees we decided to pick a Worcester street to study so that people could investigate the families living there over the years. This gives us practice at using county archive and other local records, experience that will be helpful if we visit other archives for our own family research. We chose Edgar Street because it has a long and potentially interesting history and are already finding some fascinating families and stories.

You will find a "button" below to download the 2026/2027 programme. We do not have any more booked meetings this year but a few of us are meeting informally at 1400hours on Level 2 of the Hive once a month until we restart the programme in September. The dates are: 27th April; 25th May; 29th June; and 27th July. On Monday 10th August we are showcasing our Group at an Open Meeting at 1400hours at the Lyppard Hub.
