Curious About the World? Join Our U3A Science and Technology Group

We are a well established group which has been running for twenty plus years.  The group was initiated by the late Professor Rod Latham starting with an original membership of eight people growing to a  current membership of twenty plus regular attendees who are very aware they owe Rod a debt of gratitude for making Science and Technology accessible to them.

Are you fascinated by how the world works? Want to stay mentally active, meet like-minded people, and explore the latest ideas shaping our lives? Then the U3A Science and Technology Group could be just what you’re looking for.

We meet on alternate Monday mornings, and each session opens a window onto the wide world of science and technology. From biology to physics, from astronomy to artificial intelligence, we explore a broad range of scientific topics in a relaxed and sociable setting.

Our sessions often feature videos and documentaries on cutting-edge or thought-provoking themes, sometimes followed by short presentations from group members who have a special interest or background in a subject. Whether it’s the latest space mission, a breakthrough in medical research, or a surprising fact about the natural world, there’s always something new to learn.

We make   time for group discussion and social interaction, with a break for coffee and chat built into the morning. Some sessions focus on exciting new discoveries or inventions, while others take a deeper look at the implications of science on society – giving us the chance to reflect on what these developments might mean for our future.

No scientific background is needed – just curiosity and an open mind. The group is friendly and informal, and we always welcome new members.

So if you enjoy good company and interesting conversation, and you like the idea of discovering more about the world we live in, come along and give us a try!
