Status:Active, open to new members

Group email: Reading - International Novels group
When: On Wednesday mornings 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Every 4 weeks on Wednesday starting 17th Sept. See meeting dates
Venue: Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club

This is a reading group which focuses on international novels, either written originally in English or translated into English.  The novels, to be chosen by the group members, may come from different parts of the world and different time periods. The aim is to appreciate varied styles of writing , to try to learn about the literature and culture of other countries , and to discuss our responses to the texts.

There's a whole world of good quality literature out there from classics like Anna Karenina and Metamorphosis to more modern texts like One Hundred Years of Solitude,  Kairos, and The Seven Moons of Mali Almeida. The International Booker Prize longlists are a useful resource.

Over the year, each member will choose a novel and present it to the group. This introduction need not be very long; a few pointers on the background to the novel and its writer will be a good starting point. (An additional five to ten minutes talking about the content or style would be welcome but not obligatory!)
