Pickleball is the fastest growing community game in the world! It is played on a badminton court with nets at a similar height to tennis, using a 'paddle' (looks like a large table tennis bat) and a hollow plastic ball. No special clothing is required, just comfortable sportswear, such as trainers plus tracksuit bottoms/leggings or shorts/skirts/skorts.
Pickleball is a game for everyone. It's fun and addictive and provides an excellent fitness opportunity. A good level of fitness and previous experience of playing racquet sports is helpful, but not essential. Although pickleball can be played as a singles game, we generally play doubles matches as this allows more people to play. We have groups playing at Perdiswell Leisure Centre and at the Riverside Sports Centre (part of Worcester University located on Hylton Road), on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Anyone interested, members or non-members, can take part in a one-hour 'taster' session. We have spare paddles and balls, so no need to purchase any equipment. Click on the name of the pickleball groups co-ordinator, Paul Yeo, above. This will lead you to a contact form, allowing you to send an email to Paul.
Please note - important information!
The Worcester u3a season commences in September each year and finishes at the end of August the following year. Pickleball players pay Standard+ membership fee . Most of every Pickleball player's membership fee goes to pay for hiring courts, which we estimate will fund about 25 sessions per player. If players wish to continue playing once the u3a funding has ended, they can self-fund court bookings at a preferential rate offered to u3a members. Of course, the one-off membership fee enables you to join other interest and activity Groups at no additional cost!
The following videos will help to give members a better idea of the game.
