We are a friendly group of U3A members who share a love of words, rhymes and storytelling. Some of us arrived with nothing more than a notebook and curiosity; others have years of writing experience and even published work. What we all have in common, though,  is the enjoyment of writing and encouraging one another.

There is no formal teaching — just encouragement, inspiration and constructive feedback in a supportive atmosphere where everyone can write at their own pace.

Each month we write a piece (typically 500–750 words of prose or up to 40 lines of poetry) inspired by a prompt. Those who wish to can read their work aloud and, if you’d like it, the group offers thoughtful, constructive and encouraging feedback.

Of course, no U3A meeting would be complete without a break for tea, biscuits and a catch-up, before we finish with a short writing exercise that often produces surprising and sometimes hilarious results.
