The main theme this season is Britain from Ceasar to the Norman Conquest, alongside contemporary events across the channel where the Western Roman Empire Fell and the boundaries of modern Europe came into being. In the east Constantinople prevailed as Byzantium while the rest of the eastern Empire and North Africa fell to the Saracens. The events of 1066 are well known (apart from to the writers of the Sunday night BBC serial!), but the steps along the way, involving Britons, Saxons, Vikings, Danes & Normans; along with Goths, Francs, Vandals, Lombards, et al; are confused chapters of accidents and the mishmash of human foibles which history is riddled with. Powerpoint presentations will merge the historical personalities with the surviving sites.
Our new venue is at Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Centre, off the Droitwich Road, at the end of the U-shaped access road at the traffic lights, with off-road parking and convenient for the Garden Centre, Lidi and the 144 bus. Comfee chairs with big pull-down screen ceiling projector.
We expect to continue in Autumn 2026 at the same venue - details to follow shortly.
